The Butterfly Farm
Tico Times
January 13, 2006
BUTTERFLY outing: Jose "Chepe" Porras (in wheelchair), a quadriplegic, and his partially disabled friend Juan Carlos Vega (at left) of the Hogar de Rehabilitacion rehabilitation center in Santa Ana, southwest of San Jose, enjoy a tour of The Butterfly Farm in La Guacima, northwest of San Jose. Marco Canizales (standing, inn rear) marketing manager of The Butterfly Farm, and paratransit tour operator Vaya con Silla de Ruedas teamed up over the holidays to allow Porras and Vega to experience the beauty of butterflies for an afternoon. A popular tourist attraction, The Butterfly Farm is wheelchair-accessible, with crushed-gravel trails, ramps, bathrooms with grab bars and a new bridge to the upper level of the laboratory.
